A site service account is a local account an application or appliance uses to run its services. It typically has fewer permissions than an administrator or root account, limiting the damage if the service is misused or compromised.
In an attack, a vulnerability such as an arbitrary file upload may let an intruder execute code as the service account. That foothold can still expose application data or provide a route to higher privileges. Defenders should restrict the account’s permissions, monitor its activity for unexpected commands or file changes, and investigate privilege escalation on the appliance.
