Skia is Chrome’s 2D graphics library. It turns web content into pixels by drawing text, shapes, images, gradients, and other page elements. Because it sits on the rendering path, Skia processes large amounts of untrusted input from websites every time a page is painted or updated.
That makes Skia a security-sensitive component. Bugs in graphics code can lead to crashes, memory corruption, or information leaks, especially when malformed fonts, images, or drawing instructions are involved. Attackers may use such flaws as part of an exploit chain to gain code execution or escape browser protections. Defenders reduce risk by keeping browsers patched, fuzzing rendering paths, and relying on sandboxing and GPU isolation to contain damage when a flaw is triggered.
