Soil remediation

the process of reducing or removing contaminants from soil.

Soil remediation is the process of reducing or removing contaminants from soil. The goal is to make land safe for people, ecosystems, and infrastructure by addressing pollutants such as hydrocarbons, heavy metals, solvents, or microplastics. Common methods include excavation, soil washing, bioremediation, thermal treatment, and in-place stabilization, depending on the contaminant and site conditions.

It matters in cyber security and critical-infrastructure defense because many attacks or failures have physical consequences: spills, leaks, fires, sabotage, and damaged industrial systems can contaminate the ground around facilities. Remediation is often part of incident recovery, both to restore safe operations and to preserve evidence before cleanup begins. In real defense work, teams may coordinate environmental engineers, safety staff, and investigators so that contamination is contained, documented, and removed without spreading it further.
