Spot demand is direct buying of an asset in the spot market, where the buyer gets immediate price exposure instead of using derivatives such as futures, options, or perpetual swaps. In crypto markets, it means real purchases of Bitcoin on exchanges, through custodians, or via fund creations, rather than leveraged bets on future price moves.
It matters because spot demand is a better sign of durable buying than a short squeeze or other leverage-driven move. Strong spot demand can support a breakout, absorb sell pressure, and reduce the chance that price reverses once forced liquidations end. Traders and analysts watch spot volume, exchange balances, and ETF flows to see whether a rally is backed by actual accumulation or only by temporary market mechanics.
