A subsea data center is a computing facility deployed underwater, usually in a sealed module that uses the surrounding water for cooling and siting. The design can reduce land use and help manage heat, which is attractive for dense cloud and AI workloads.
In cyber security, subsea deployment changes the threat model. Physical access is harder, so operators depend more on encrypted management channels, hardware-rooted identity, signed firmware, and strict network segmentation. Defenders also monitor telemetry such as temperature, pressure, vibration, and power quality, because remote failures are slower and more expensive to repair. Attackers may target the remote administration path, landing stations, or maintenance supply chain instead of the sealed module itself.
