Synthetic sexualized images are AI-made or AI-altered pictures that depict a real person in explicit or sexualized form. They may start from an ordinary photo and use generative editing, face swapping, or other image-manipulation techniques to create content that looks convincing even though the person never agreed to it.
In cyber security, this matters because the harm is often social and reputational, not just technical. Attackers use these images for harassment, extortion, impersonation, and non-consensual intimate-image abuse. Once created, they can be copied, reposted, and cached across platforms, making removal difficult. Defenses focus on consent checks, provenance and watermarking, upload abuse detection, reporting workflows, and rapid takedown processes. Strong platform controls can reduce how easily AI tools are turned into digital violence.
