Tagged VPN sessions are VPN connections marked with identifiers or attributes so an appliance can apply specific handling or policy to them. Tags may be used to distinguish sessions by user, connection type, or other criteria; their exact meaning depends on the system’s implementation.
Security appliances can use session tags in rules for access, routing, inspection, or logging. If an attacker tampers with the appliance’s session-handling logic, selected tagged connections may be treated differently from others. This does not necessarily mean all VPN traffic is exposed or bypasses controls. Defenders should monitor VPN policies and logs for unexpected differences in how tagged sessions are processed, and investigate appliance integrity if those behaviors change.
