Teen Accounts are platform account settings that apply stricter defaults and limits for adolescent users. They usually narrow who can contact the user, reduce exposure to risky content, and make some privacy or sharing changes harder to loosen without supervision. In security terms, they are a trust-and-safety control layer that tries to separate minors from the broader adult-facing experience.
They matter because many abuse patterns target young users through direct messages, recommendation feeds, and social engineering. If age is misreported, accounts are shared, or age-assurance checks are weak, the wrong safety rules may be applied. Defenders use Teen Accounts to reduce attack surface with restrictive defaults, supervised settings, and tighter content controls, but the protection only works if enforcement is consistent across feeds, messaging, and account changes.
