Telehealth records are digital files created or used in remote care workflows, such as intake forms, appointment notes, chat transcripts, prescriptions, billing details, or uploaded images. Because they may contain protected health information, they can be sensitive even when they live outside a full electronic medical record system.
They matter in cyber security because attackers often target healthcare-adjacent data for extortion, identity theft, and fraud. If stolen, telehealth records can expose patient identity, contact details, diagnoses, insurance data, and staff workflow information. Defenders should encrypt these records, restrict access by role, log and monitor access, separate them from general business systems, and test backups and incident response. In a breach investigation, their presence signals possible privacy, compliance, and trust impacts, not just operational disruption.
