Teleradiology

remote review of imaging studies by clinicians.

Teleradiology is the remote review of medical imaging studies, such as X-rays, CT scans, and MRIs, by clinicians who are not physically in the same location as the patient or imaging device. It lets radiologists read studies from hospitals, clinics, or cloud PACS platforms and return reports quickly, supporting after-hours coverage, specialist consultation, and faster diagnosis.

In cyber security, teleradiology matters because it depends on always-available image viewers, authentication systems, and secure network links. If attackers compromise a PACS platform, steal credentials, or disrupt remote access, they can delay diagnosis, force manual workflows, or expose sensitive health data. Defenders protect teleradiology with strong identity controls, encrypted transport, logging, segmentation, and recovery plans so clinicians can keep reviewing studies even during outages or extortion attempts.
