Transaction review

a control step used to inspect or approve a payment before it is completed.

Transaction review is a control step in which a payment is checked or approved before it is completed. Depending on the organization and payment system, this may involve verifying the amount, recipient, purpose, and supporting details, or requiring approval from another authorized person.

Review helps catch mistakes and suspicious payments before funds leave an account. In cyber security, it can limit the impact of stolen credentials, phishing, or unauthorized access-especially when payments are fast, high-value, or cross-border. Effective controls define who may initiate and approve payments, apply extra checks to unusual transactions, and preserve records for later investigation. Review should complement strong authentication and least-privilege access, not replace them.
