VBS enclave

A software-based trusted execution environment in Windows that isolates sensitive code and data from the rest of the system.

A VBS enclave is a software-based trusted execution environment in Windows. It uses virtualization-based security to isolate sensitive code and data from the rest of the operating system and from other processes, so protected logic can keep running even when the host machine is not fully trusted.

This matters because enclaves are used to reduce the impact of compromise in high-value security paths such as anti-phishing, credential handling, and policy checks. Attackers often look for memory corruption or timing flaws that can break enclave boundaries, while defenders focus on memory safety, strict state handling, and resistance to side-channel-style bugs. A VBS enclave is not a magic shield, but it can sharply limit what an attacker can reach.
