Verifiable results

outcomes that can be checked with evidence rather than assumed from spending alone.

Verifiable results are outcomes that can be confirmed with evidence, not just claimed because money, time, or effort was spent. In cyber security, this means a control or program should show measurable proof: logs, scan reports, test results, audit trails, incident metrics, or repeatable validation that a fix actually works.

This matters because security spending can create a false sense of progress. A project may look successful on paper while systems remain exposed. Verifiable results help teams separate real risk reduction from “security theater.” For example, a patch program is only meaningful if vulnerability scans confirm the systems are fixed, and an MFA rollout is only effective if authentication logs show coverage and exceptions. Attackers often exploit organizations that track activity instead of outcomes; defenders use verifiable results to prove controls are working, spot gaps, and justify changes based on evidence rather than assumptions.
