A version boundary is the release cutoff that separates vulnerable software versions from versions where a security flaw is fixed. It may identify the affected range, the first patched release, or both. The boundary is specific to the component and deployment mode; products with similar names may not share the same exposure.
Defenders use version boundaries to decide which systems need urgent updates and to establish the period in which exploitation may have been possible. In practice, teams check software inventories and installed package versions against advisory details, including bundled components. A version below the fixed release may require patching and, if exposure is suspected, investigation of logs and system changes. Confirming the exact component and version helps avoid both missed vulnerabilities and unnecessary disruption to unaffected systems.
