Voice impersonation is mimicking someone’s voice to make a target believe they are speaking with a trusted person. Attackers may imitate a relative, colleague, or authority figure, using urgency or a plausible request to pressure someone into acting.
In cyber security, a familiar voice is not reliable proof of identity. Impersonation can support social engineering, such as requests for money, passwords, one-time codes, or access. Treat unexpected urgent calls with caution: end the call and contact the person using a number you already know. Never share sensitive information or approve a payment based on voice alone.
