Voice infrastructure

phone, PBX, and related equipment used to route and manage calls.

Voice infrastructure is the equipment and software used to provide and manage phone calls. It can include desk phones, private branch exchange (PBX) systems, voice-over-IP (VoIP) services, call-routing equipment, and administrative consoles.

In cybersecurity, these systems matter because their configurations and credentials can reveal how calls are handled and may provide access to phone services or connected networks. Attackers may target voice systems to disrupt communications, misuse calling services, or use exposed credentials to access administration interfaces. Defenders should include voice equipment in asset inventories, restrict and monitor administrative access, keep systems updated, and protect credentials. An exposed inventory or configuration alone does not prove that a system was accessed or compromised.
