Warehouse automation

Systems that support storage, picking, and fulfillment operations.

Warehouse automation is the use of software, control systems, robotics, scanners, and integrations to run storage, picking, sorting, packing, and shipping tasks in a fulfillment environment. It coordinates inventory movement and order processing so goods can be handled quickly and with fewer manual steps.

It matters in cyber security because these systems sit close to operations. If attackers disrupt automation software, they can delay orders, corrupt inventory data, stop conveyor or picking workflows, or cause safety and availability problems. In extortion cases, source code, configuration files, or credentials from warehouse systems can also reveal how a site operates and help attackers understand where to apply pressure. Defenders protect these environments by segmenting networks, limiting remote access, hardening controllers and application servers, and monitoring for unauthorized changes to automation logic or interfaces.
