A consumption band is a pricing or benchmarking bracket based on how much energy a customer uses over a defined period. Utilities, regulators, and analysts use these bands to compare like with like, because fixed charges, network fees, and taxes can change the final unit price depending on usage level. Comparing a small user with a high-load industrial site can produce misleading conclusions if they are not in the same band.
In practice, consumption bands matter because they shape procurement, cost forecasting, and efficiency targets. For industrial sites and smart-metered environments, band shifts can also expose unusual patterns: sudden spikes, steady overuse, or meter tampering can push an account into a different bracket. In security and operations work, monitoring consumption bands helps teams spot abnormal load profiles, validate billing data, and understand whether high usage is caused by real demand, faulty equipment, or unauthorized activity.
