Hermes Agent is a terminal-oriented agent framework: software that lets an AI system do more than chat by invoking commands, using tools, and chaining actions in a shell-like environment. In practice, it sits between a model’s reasoning and the operating system, helping the agent execute tasks, manage skills, and integrate with external services such as MCP-connected tools.
This matters in cyber security because terminal access turns an AI assistant into an action-capable operator. If permissions are too broad, the framework can run commands, move data, or automate multi-step workflows with little human review. Defenders should treat it like privileged automation, not a text interface. That means least privilege, approval gates for risky commands, strong logging, and tight control over which tools and data sources the agent can reach.
