Hologram

an optical image designed to produce a three-dimensional visual effect.

A hologram is an optical image engineered to create a three-dimensional visual effect when viewed from different angles. Unlike a flat printed picture, it can seem to shift, depth, or sparkle as light changes. In security design, that changing appearance makes holograms useful as a visual feature that is harder to copy convincingly than ordinary ink or paper.

Cyber security teams often encounter holograms on identity cards, passports, product seals, software certificates, and other anti-counterfeiting media. They help security staff and users quickly check whether an item looks genuine. Attackers, however, may imitate the effect with cheap foil, printed gradients, or low-quality stickers to fool casual inspection. For that reason, holograms are best treated as one layer of defense, usually combined with microtext, serial numbers, QR checks, or machine-readable verification.
