Industrial sovereignty

the ability to keep strategic capabilities, ownership, and decision power inside a national or regional ecosystem.

Industrial sovereignty is the ability to keep strategic capabilities, ownership, and decision-making power inside a national or regional ecosystem. In cyber security, this matters because the organizations that design, run, and maintain critical systems also control the data, software, hardware supply chain, and response procedures that protect them.

When industrial sovereignty is weak, key technologies may depend on outside vendors, foreign cloud services, or remote operators. That can create security risks such as supply-chain compromise, opaque software updates, limited audit rights, and reduced ability to patch or isolate systems quickly. Defenders use industrial sovereignty goals to favor local expertise, independent verification, secure procurement, and control over sensitive IP and infrastructure. In practice, it is not about isolation; it is about ensuring that strategic systems remain governable, resilient, and defensible by the people who rely on them.
