SSE

Secure Service Edge combines security controls for users, devices, and cloud access in a service model.

Secure Service Edge (SSE) is a cloud-delivered security model that brings together controls such as secure web gateway, cloud access security, zero-trust network access, and firewall-as-a-service. Instead of trusting a whole network after a VPN login, SSE evaluates each request based on identity, device posture, location, and policy.

SSE matters because modern attacks often start with stolen credentials or compromised endpoints. If an attacker logs in from an unsafe device, SSE can restrict access to only approved applications, inspect cloud traffic, and log activity for detection. Defenders use it to reduce blast radius, enforce least privilege, and replace broad network trust with smaller, conditional access decisions.
